One in a lifetime - Summit day: Summit day is mor One in a lifetime - Summit day: Summit day is more challenging than most people realize. It’s easy to underestimate just how much mental and physical strength it takes to reach the top. I wish I’d known just how difficult that the final day was going to be. The feedback I’ve received from my friends who have climbed Kilimanjaro with me was that they knew summit day was going to be hard. But not that hard. In other words, the effort they put forth was even beyond what they had anticipated. On the typical itinerary, you’ll start your ascent around midnight, already sleep deprived and probably not feeling your best, then hike for six to eight hours in the freezing cold to an altitude of 19,341 feet (5,895 meters), before descending for another four to six hours to 10,000 feet (3,000 meters). That sounds hard. And in reality, it’s even harder than it sounds. But you can do it! For more information please leat us knows,

Why do we climb to the summit of Kilimanjaro at ni Why do we climb to the summit of Kilimanjaro at night? Climbing Kilimanjaro at night offers several advantages, including better trail conditions, higher margins of safety, and more spectacular views. We realize that a night ascent can be challenging, due to the darkness, the cold and the wind.
So, while it might not sound so enjoyable to climb Kilimanjaro in the middle of the night, know that there are compelling reasons behind why we do it and it is with your best interest at heart. It’s for this reason that I say that climbing Kilimanjaro is fun for about 90% of the time. But that other 10%, when you’re pushing for the summit, well that’s where you earn your certificate.
Well, in the two decades as tour operator I’ve never really come up with a definitive answer. But here are the top three most common ‘reasons’ that I’ve heard down the years: 1. It’s easier.
As you get towards the Crater rim, you’ll notice that the ground is largely made up of shale – tiny bits of stone/gravel. During the day, ascending on shale can be like climbing a sand dune. That is to say, every time you take two steps up the slope, the shifting sand/gravel moves you back down the slope again. This soon becomes exhausting. However, at night the shale freezes in place – which makes it easier to ascend. 2. If something goes wrong, you’ve got an entire day of daylight to get down off the mountain.
The most likely place where you are going to get into trouble, and the most remote place, is the very summit itself, of course, known as Uhuru Peak. After all, this is where the air is at its thinnest. So if you are going to get into trouble there, it’s best you arrive at dawn, so your team has got the maximum amount of daylight available to evacuate you. 3. The idea of reaching the very highest point in Africa as Dawn breaks across the continent is a romantic and alluring one. For more details kindly visit our website at; www.karibuadventure.com

It’s our mission to ensure a safe and successful It’s our mission to ensure a safe and successful summit for everyone. We have a guide to climber ratio of 1 to 2, so for every two climbers, we have one trained mountain guide. This allows for more careful observation and evaluation of the group’s condition. Daily Health Checks & Monitoring Communication with your guide is important. If you’re feeling under the weather, have a headache, nausea or any other symptom, you must tell your guide. While hiking, your guide will be keeping a lookout for any early signs of trouble: - Are you having difficulty on the trail, stumbling or very tired - Are you eating well, or is your appetite diminishing - Do you keep stopping to catch your breath, and having difficulty breathing - Are you drinking enough water - Any signs of erratic behavior or confusion Daily Health Check Every day, you’ll have a one-to-one meeting with your guide for a comprehensive health check-up: Using a pulse oximeter to measure your blood oxygen saturation and resting pulse rate, using this data in combination with: Self-assessment questions to determine how you are feeling Constant monitoring prevents a mild case of altitude sickness from escalating into an emergency. MACHAME ROUTE: The route also known as the “Whi MACHAME ROUTE:
The route also known as the “Whiskey” route, is the most popular route on Kilimanjaro. Machame’s draw is in its scenic beauty. However, the trail is considered difficult, steep and challenging, particularly due to its shorter itinerary. Therefore this route is better suited for more adventurous folks or those with some high altitude, hiking or backpacking experience. The route approaches Mount Kilimanjaro from the south, beginning with a short drive from Moshi to Machame Gate. The path leads hikers through the rain forest to Shira Plateau. Here, many of Kilimanjaro’s routes converge. Then the route turns east and traverses underneath Kilimanjaro’s Southern Ice Field on a path known as the Southern Circuit before summiting from Barafu. Descent is made via the Mweka route. for more information kindly visit our website at
