Kilimanjaro Oxygen Support
At Karibu Adventure, your safety is our top priority. As part of our Kilimanjaro Oxygen Support system and commitment to high-altitude safety, we carry emergency oxygen cylinders on all Kilimanjaro climbs.
Why We Carry Oxygen
Climbing to high altitude can reduce oxygen levels in the body, which may lead to Altitude Sickness (AMS). While proper acclimatization is the best prevention, supplemental oxygen is an important safety backup in case of emergency.
How Oxygen Is Used
Our oxygen cylinders are strictly for emergency use only and are handled by our trained mountain guides.
Oxygen may be administered when:
- A climber shows moderate to severe symptoms of altitude sickness
- Oxygen saturation levels drop below safe limits (monitored using a pulse oximeter)
- A guest requires immediate stabilization before descent
Monitoring & Decision Making
- Our guides perform daily health checks, including oxygen saturation (SpO₂) and pulse rate
- If a climber’s condition requires attention, the guide will assess and decide whether to use oxygen
- In more serious cases, immediate descent is always the priority
Important to Know
- Oxygen support is not used to push clients to the summit
- It is a safety measure, not a substitute for acclimatization
- Our itineraries are designed to allow proper altitude adjustment for higher success rates

- Pulse oximeter monitoring (daily health checks)
- Experienced, Wilderness First Responder–trained guides
- Comprehensive first aid kits
- Emergency evacuation procedures if required
