Lemosho Route (7 Days)

Day 1: Lemosho Gate (2,100m) to Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,750m)

  • Distance: 6 km (3.7 miles)
  • Trekking Time: 3-4 hours
  • Elevation Gain: +650m
  • Description:
    • Start your trek at Lemosho Gate and ascend through the lush rainforest to Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,750m).
    • This gentle start allows you to acclimatize to the higher altitude in the coming days, with plenty of opportunities to enjoy the rich vegetation and wildlife.

Day 2: Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,750m) to Shira 1 Camp (3,600m)

  • Distance: 8 km (5 miles)
  • Trekking Time: 5-6 hours
  • Elevation Gain: +850m
  • Description:
    • Today you’ll continue your ascent through the rainforest and into the moorland zone.
    • As the landscape changes, you’ll enjoy views of the Shira Plateau, which is vast and open, with incredible views of Kilimanjaro.
    • Reach Shira 1 Camp (3,600m) in the afternoon for an early rest.

Day 3: Shira 1 Camp (3,600m) to Shira 2 Camp (3,900m)

  • Distance: 7 km (4.3 miles)
  • Trekking Time: 3-4 hours
  • Elevation Gain: +300m
  • Description:
    • Today’s hike is relatively short, but it’s a steady walk across the Shira Plateau at an altitude of 3,900m.
    • You’ll get a close-up view of Mount Meru and Kilimanjaro’s Western Breach while crossing this alpine desert.
    • By the afternoon, you’ll reach Shira 2 Camp (3,900m) for an overnight stay.

Day 4: Shira 2 Camp (3,900m) to Barranco Camp (3,950m)

  • Distance: 10 km (6.2 miles)
  • Trekking Time: 5-6 hours
  • Elevation Gain: +50m
  • Description:
    • Today’s trek takes you across the Shira Plateau and through the Lava Tower (4,630m), a fascinating geological feature. From there, you’ll descend into the Barranco Valley.
    • The route involves a brief descent to Barranco Camp (3,950m), which is nestled below the stunning Barranco Wall.
    • It’s a great spot to rest, and it offers fantastic views of Kilimanjaro.

Day 5: Barranco Camp (3,950m) to Barafu Camp (4,640m)

  • Distance: 13 km (8 miles)
  • Trekking Time: 7-8 hours
  • Elevation Gain: +690m
  • Description:
    • Start your day by climbing the Barranco Wall, a challenging but fun section that requires using your hands to scramble up rocky terrain.
    • Once at the top, you’ll continue along the ridge through alpine desert terrain toward Barafu Camp (4,640m), the base camp for your summit attempt.
    • You’ll arrive in the afternoon, where you can rest and prepare for the midnight summit attempt. The camp is located on a ridge, offering stunning views of the surrounding mountains.

Day 6: Barafu Camp (4,640m) to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) and descend to Mweka Camp (3,100m)

  • Distance: 6 km (3.7 miles) to summit, then 13 km (8 miles) to Mweka Camp
  • Trekking Time: 7-9 hours to summit, then 4-5 hours descent to Mweka Camp
  • Elevation Gain: +1,255m to summit, then descend -2,795m to Mweka Camp
  • Description:
    • Summit Attempt: Begin your summit climb around midnight. The trail to Gilman’s Point (5,681m) is steep, and it requires stamina and determination. From there, you’ll continue to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro.
    • After reaching the summit and celebrating your achievement, descend back to Barafu Camp for a quick rest before continuing down to Mweka Camp (3,100m) for the night.
    • The descent is long but relatively easier compared to the ascent.

Day 7: Mweka Camp (3,100m) to Mweka Gate (1,640m)

  • Distance: 10 km (6.2 miles)
  • Trekking Time: 3-4 hours
  • Elevation Loss: -1,460m
  • Description:
    • On your final day, descend through the lush rainforest, watching the terrain change as you approach the Mweka Gate.
    • After completing the trek, you’ll receive your summit certificate and be transferred to your hotel to celebrate your accomplishment.

Why This 7-Day Itinerary is Beneficial:

  • More Rest and Acclimatization: By skipping Karanga Camp, the itinerary still provides sufficient time to rest and acclimatize at the various camps before the summit attempt.
  • Direct Summit Push: The approach from Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp allows for a direct route to the summit while maintaining gradual elevation increases to reduce the risk of altitude sickness.
  • Descent via Mweka: The descent through the Mweka Route is more gradual, which is easier on your body after the challenging summit attempt.

  • Deposit is 10% of the total booking amount, this is non-refundable.

Balance Payment

  • Balance can be paid via bank transfer, online card payment, or with cash.
  • Bank payment can be done 15 days prior to the tour date (recommended 30 days prior).
  • Card Payment can be done 1 day prior to the tour date (recommended 7 days prior).
