Detailed Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 0 – Arrival in Moshi (900m)

Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to Moshi hotel (45–60 min). Meet your mountain guide for briefing and full gear check. Optional town walk for cultural experience.

Overnight: Hotel in Moshi (Bed & Breakfast)

Day 1 – Lemosho Gate → Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,650m)

Drive to Lemosho Gate then begin trekking through pristine rainforest rich in wildlife, birds, and dense vegetation. Gradual ascent with peaceful surroundings.

Distance: 6–7 km | Time: 3–4 hrs
Overnight: Mti Mkubwa Camp

Day 2 – Mti Mkubwa → Shira 1 Camp (3,505m)

Leave rainforest and enter moorland zone with wide views of Shira Plateau and Kibo Peak. Terrain becomes more open and cooler.

Distance: 8 km | Time: 5–6 hrs
Overnight: Shira 1 Camp

Day 3 – Shira 1 → Shira 2 Camp (3,840m)

A shorter acclimatization day across the Shira Plateau. Optional hike to Shira Cathedral for panoramic views of Mount Meru and Kibo.

Distance: 7 km | Time: 4–5 hrs
Overnight: Shira 2 Camp

Day 4 – Shira 2 → Lava Tower → Barranco Camp

Important acclimatization day (“climb high, sleep low”). Ascend to Lava Tower (4,630m) then descend into Barranco Valley.

Overnight: Barranco Camp

Day 5 – Barranco Camp → Karanga Camp

Climb the famous Barranco Wall then continue through ridges and valleys. Short acclimatization day for recovery and altitude adaptation.

Day 6 – Karanga Camp → Barafu Camp (4,640m)

Day 7 – Summit (Uhuru Peak 5,895m) → Mweka Camp

Midnight summit push under freezing conditions. Reach Uhuru Peak at sunrise, then descend to Barafu and continue to Mweka Camp.

Overnight: Mweka Camp

Day 8 – Mweka Camp → Mweka Gate → Moshi

Descend through lush rainforest to Mweka Gate. Receive your summit certificate and transfer back to Moshi for celebration and rest.
