Complete Rongai Route 6-day Kilimanjaro climb itinerary with altitude gain, terrain, and daily experience.
Day 0: Arrival in Moshi
Elevation: ~890–900 m
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by the Karibu Adventure team and transferred to your hotel in Moshi.
You will meet your guides for a detailed briefing and gear check to ensure you are fully prepared for the climb. If time allows, enjoy a short guided walk around Moshi town, experiencing local markets and Tanzanian culture.
Overnight: Hotel in Moshi (Bed & Breakfast)
Day 1: Rongai Gate – Simba Camp
Elevation: 1,200 m → 2,700 m
Distance: 10 km
Hiking Time: 4–5 hours
Habitat: Montane Forest
Drive to the northern side of Kilimanjaro to Rongai Gate and begin your trek. Walk through quiet montane forest where you may spot colobus monkeys and rich birdlife. The trail gradually ascends to Simba Camp.
Overnight: Simba Camp
Day 2: Simba Camp – Kikelewa Camp
Elevation: 2,700 m → 3,600 m
Distance: 10–12 km
Hiking Time: 5–6 hours
Habitat: Forest → Moorland
Leave the forest behind and enter heath and moorland zones with giant lobelias and open ridges. Enjoy panoramic views of Kilimanjaro’s northern slopes as you arrive at Kikelewa Camp.
Overnight: Kikelewa Camp
Day 3: Kikelewa Camp – Mawenzi Tarn Hut
Elevation: 3,600 m → 4,300 m
Distance: 10 km
Hiking Time: 5–6 hours
Habitat: Moorland → Alpine Desert
Ascend into dramatic alpine terrain with stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro’s peaks, including Mawenzi. Arrive at the scenic Mawenzi Tarn area, located beside a small alpine lake beneath towering cliffs.
Overnight: Mawenzi Tarn Hut
Day 4: Mawenzi Tarn Hut – Kibo Hut
Elevation: 4,300 m → 4,700 m
Distance: 7–8 km
Hiking Time: 4–5 hours
Habitat: Alpine Desert
Trek across a barren volcanic landscape toward Kibo Hut, your final base before summit attempt. Rest, hydrate, and prepare mentally for your midnight ascent.
Overnight: Kibo Hut
Day 5: Kibo Hut – Uhuru Peak – Horombo Hut
Elevation: 4,700 m → 5,895 m → 3,720 m
Distance: 18 km
Hiking Time: 10–12 hours
Habitat: Arctic → Alpine → Moorland
Begin your summit attempt at midnight under a sky full of stars. Reach Gillman’s Point, then continue to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m). After celebrating at the summit, descend to Kibo Hut and continue down to Horombo Hut.
Overnight: Horombo Hut
Day 6: Horombo Hut – Marangu Gate – Moshi
Elevation: 3,720 m → 1,200–1,300 m
Distance: ~20 km descent
Hiking Time: 5–6 hours
Habitat: Moorland → Rainforest
Descend through moorland and rainforest to Marangu Gate. Receive your summit certificate and transfer back to your hotel in Moshi for celebration and relaxation.
